Last big postcard push...

School is back in.  Maddie is now focused on spelling words and what's for lunch at school.  BUT, I am still obsessed with this project!  Macie (Maddie's 4 year old sister) runs to the mailbox to check for postcards every day. 
It's time to take down our wall of cards and make a cute scrapbook that Maddie can keep always.  Thank you to those who have sent her postcards.  We still need a few more states, so once again, if you know anyone, let us know and we'll get you our address.  We WILL get a postcard from every state, even if it takes us a year!

Fun fact about Ohio is that the first ambulance service was established in Cincinnati in 1865.

Colorado!  Thank to The Messinger Family.  (Macie was in charge of posing me for pictures.  She told me to put it over my face). 
Fun fact about Colorado is that Denver, lays claim to the invention of the cheeseburger. The trademark for the name Cheeseburger was awarded in 1935 to Louis Ballast.

Maryland.  Thank you, Abby Cross.  This is the first postcard that made me (Heidi) laugh.  It says, "Congratulations on finding your true calling" with sumo wrestlers on it.  She couldn't find an actual Maryland postcard.  Love it!
Fun fact about Maryland ...In 1830 the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Company built the first railroad station in Baltimore.

South Dakota! Thank you to Allyson Frey (4th grader).  Fun fact is that Sculptor Gutzon Borglum began drilling into the 6,200-foot Mount Rushmore in 1927. Creation of the Shrine to Democracy took 14 years and cost a mere $1 million, though it's now deemed priceless.

Iowa!  Thank you, Wood Family.  Crystal Lake is home to a statue of the world's largest bullhead fish.

North Carolina (again).  Thanks, Uncle Russ.  In 1903 the Wright Brothers made the first successful powered flight by man at Kill Devil Hill near Kitty Hawk. The Wright Memorial at Kitty Hawks now commemorates their achievement.

North Carolina.  Thank you, Uncle Russ.  The Outer Banks of NC hosts some of the most beautiful beaches in the country.

Kansas!  Thank you, ???  Kansas won the award for most beautiful license plate for the wheat plate design issued in 1981.

Montana!  Thank  you, Spratling Family.  The state boasts the largest breeding population of trumpeter swans in the lower United States. (I just read that Trumpet of the Swans book).

South Carolina!  Thank you, Herbon Family!  The salamander was given the honor of official state amphibian.

Maryland.  Thank you, Minnick Family.  (Friend of the Morris Family).  King Williams School opened in 1696 it was the first school in the United States.

Death Valley is recognized as the hottest, driest place in the United States. It isn't uncommon for the summer temperatures to reach more than 115 degrees.

We got 2 from Wyoming on the same day!  Thank you "Aunt Sue" and The Hess Family.  Wyoming was the first state to give women the right to vote.

Georgia!  Thanks, Douglas family.  Georgia is the nations number one producer of the three Ps--peanuts, pecans, and peaches.

Kentucky!  Thanks, Douglas Family!  Mammoth Cave is the world's longest cave and was first promoted in 1816, making it the second oldest tourist attraction in the United States. Niagara Falls, New York is first.
